Accuray announces 100,000th patient treated with CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery System

Accuray Incorporated, a global leader in the field of radiosurgery, announced today that the 100,000th patient has been treated with the CyberKnife® Robotic Radiosurgery System, a non-invasive alternative to surgery for the treatment of both cancerous and non-cancerous tumors anywhere in the body. One in four patients treated with CyberKnife radiosurgery received treatment during Accuray's fiscal 2010, which ran July 2009 to June 2010.

NeuroDerm receives $1M grant for development of ND0611 dermal patch for Parkinson's disease

NeuroDerm, Ltd. was informed today that it was awarded a grant of $1M by The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. These funds will support the next clinical study with ND0611, a new dermal patch for the treatment of Parkinson's disease, as part of the Foundation's prestigious Clinical Intervention Awards 2010 program. This study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, levodopa pharmacokinetics, and possible clinical benefits of ND0611 in advanced Parkinson's disease patients.

Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging more effective than ultrasound in finding cancers

Results of a study on Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging (BSGI) presented at the annual breast meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Washington, D.C., showed that BSGI was nearly twice as effective in finding cancers and more than three times as likely to lead to the correct diagnosis when compared to ultrasound.

Researchers discover mechanism of body fat accumulation

Using ice cream, candy bars and energy drinks to help volunteers gain weight, Mayo Clinic researchers have discovered the mechanisms of how body fat grows. Increased abdominal fat seems to heighten risk for metabolic disease, while fat expansion in the lower body as in the thighs seems to lower the risk. The findings, appearing in today's Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), help explain why.

Interim data from HyQ Phase III clinical study in primary immune deficiency presented at 26th ESID

Data from interim analyses of a Phase III clinical study in patients with primary immune deficiency (PID) who received Baxter's HyQ were presented at the 26th meeting of the European Society for Immunodeficiencies (ESID) in Istanbul, Turkey. HyQ is an immune globulin (IG) therapy facilitated subcutaneously by recombinant human hyaluronidase, a dispersion and permeation enhancer.
