New motion management software enables clear visualization of moving tumors in lung cancer

A 67-year-old female patient with lung cancer presented physicians with a difficult challenge: her tumor was small and it rode up and down with her breathing. During her treatment set up, all doctors saw on their therapy system's imaging equipment was a blur of motion. Fortunately, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust was able to utilize its Symmetry motion management software; new imaging technology from Elekta that enables clear visualization of moving targets.

The Wall Street Journal/Dow Jones Newswires: "The U.S. Justice Department on Monday filed an antitrust lawsuit against Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, alleging that provisions of its agreements with hospitals are anticompetitive." The action, filed in a Michigan federal court, challenges the "insurer's use of provisions known as 'most favored nation clauses'" (Kendall, 10/18).

Tylenol batch recalled due to strange smell

Johnson and Johnson’s (J&J) commonly used over-the-counter painkiller Tylenol has been recalled again in some batches because of complaints of a musty or moldy odor in the product. The company is facing a U.S. congressional probe of quality control lapses in the past as well. The drugs recalled to date include the painkiller Motrin and allergy treatment Benadryl as well as this batch of 100,000 bottles of Tylenol.

Crackdown on liquor licensing breaches needed: Doctors

AMA Victoria has urged the State to look deeper into liquor licensing breaches and has alleged that there have been only four prosecutions out of the near 15,200 breaches. There were 1,200 venues who were reportedly supplying liquor “other than in accordance with the license”. AMA Victoria has asked the state government to introduce harsher penalties for venue operators that breach their liquor licensing conditions.
