Triad alcohol prep pads with ARIXTRA Starter Kits not to be used

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has become aware of a United States market recall of all lots of alcohol prep pads, swabs and swabsticks manufactured by the Triad Group and marketed under various brand names. The Triad Group recall has been initiated due to concerns about potential microbial contamination of the alcohol products with Bacillus cereus that could potentially lead to life-threatening infections.

UH researchers to discuss computational surgery at MITIE

More than a dozen University of Houston (UH) researchers will be making presentations, ranging from robot-assisted surgery techniques to improving heart and breast surgery procedures, at the third annual international conference in computational surgery Jan. 26-28. The symposium will be held at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute (TMHRI) in Houston.

A Taiwanese research team, led by Prof. Ming-Shing Young of Department of Electrical Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), has successfully developed a large-scale proactive cancer treatment system first-generation prototype which includes Frequency-Adjustable High Frequency Induction Heating Machine (HFIHM) and 3D Magnetically Guiding Endoscope System (3DMGES).

Trust in business, government shows marked resilience: 2011 Edelman Trust Barometer

In a year marred by corporate crises and financial turmoil for European governments, trust in business and government showed marked resilience, according to the 2011 Edelman Trust Barometer. Trust in business saw a two-point global increase, surging in Brazil, rising in Germany, and holding steady in China and India. The United States was the outlier, as trust dropped across all institutions – business, government, NGOs, and media.
