New findings pave way to improve early detection of ovarian cancer

A drug in testing to treat atherosclerosis significantly inhibited growth of ovarian cancer in both human cell lines and mouse models, the first such report of a peptide being used to fight malignancies, according to a study by researchers at UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Edleun acquires three child care centres in Alberta

Edleun Group, Inc., a leading consolidator, operator and developer of child care facilities in Canada, announced today that it has completed its acquisition of the previously announced three child care centres located in Calgary, Alberta. The acquisition of these three centres adds 283 licensed childcare spaces to the Company's portfolio and increases the total number of spaces to 1,851. Including the transaction just completed, Edleun currently owns 20 centres in Canada.

UK HealthCare transplant recipient wins at 2010 U.S. Transplant Games

One transplant recipient from UK HealthCare, Dan Gutenson of Stanford, Ky., joined the 36 other members of "Team Kentucky" in Madison, Wisconsin for the 2010 U.S. Transplant Games this past summer. Gutenson, who received his kidney transplant in Sept. 2009, suffered from polycystic disease and received a kidney from a living donor in the church he pastors in Lincoln County, Ky.

NTU and Imperial College to jointly establish Singapore's third medical school

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and Imperial College London today signed an official agreement to jointly establish Singapore's third medical school. The initiative was previously announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the National Day Rally 2010, in August. Presently, the working name for the school is "Imperial College London-Nanyang Technological University Medical School" (ICNMS).
