Atrium Medical receives Bio/Medical Council Business of the Year Award

The New Hampshire Bio/Medical Council held its 2nd Annual Awards Dinner on October 14, 2010 at the Wentworth-By-The-Sea Country Club in Rye, NH. During the evening, the Bio/Medical Council awarded Atrium Medical Corporation of Hudson, NH the NH Bio/Medical Council Business of the Year Award. In attendance to accept the award were Ted Karwoski, Chief Operating Officer and Steve Vail, Group VP of Global Marketing.

HHS awards $4.8 million grant for Teen Prevention Education Program

The Princeton Center for Leadership Training (PCLT), in collaboration with long-time partner HiTOPS, was awarded a five-year, $4.8 million federal grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to replicate and evaluate a teen sexual health peer education program, known as the Teen Prevention Education Program (Teen PEP), in 16 high schools in rural North Carolina communities with high teen birth rates.

ACEP urges increased emergency medicine representation on National Commission on Children and Disasters

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) today expressed concerns about a new report delivered to the White House and Congress by the National Commission on Children and Disasters. The organization urged the Commission to include more representation from emergency physicians, the group of physicians considered the experts in disaster preparedness, and emergency nurses who care for these victims.

The Environmental Protection Agency has reached out to Michigan State University to inform the state's fish consumers about the harmful impact of environmental chemicals and help them access appropriate guidelines on eating fish.

Noting that Friday is Global Handwashing Day, the Los Angeles Times writes, "Every year, diarrhea and acute respiratory infections cause the death of more than 3.5 million children under age 5. These figures could be cut dramatically if handwashing with soap were widely practiced, experts say."

The year 2010 marks a significant date in the history of the University of Kentucky College of Medicine as it celebrates its 50th anniversary. The festivities culminate on Oct. 15 with the Signature Event, held at the Keeneland Sales Pavilion. ASTRO honors founder of The Oral Cancer Foundation

The American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) has named Brian Hill of Newport Beach, Calif., as its 2010 Survivor Circle Award winner. Hill will be recognized with a trophy and a $1,000 prize during the Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, November 2, 2010, during ASTRO's 52nd Annual Meeting in San Diego. He has chosen to donate the funds from the award to benefit The Oral Cancer Foundation, the nonprofit he started a decade ago.
