"Dartmouth College is getting $35 million to open a center it hopes will help the nation take the next big steps in health care reform: improving quality while lowering costs," The Associated Press reports.

Providence Equity Partners to acquire Virtual Radiologic for $17.25 per share

Virtual Radiologic Corporation, a national radiology practice and a leader in the development of radiologist workflow technology, and Providence Equity Partners, a leading global private equity firm that manages over $22 billion in equity capital, today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Providence will acquire all of the outstanding common stock of vRad for $17.25 per share in cash.

NanoViricides signs Research Agreement with UCSF for testing anti-HIV drug candidates

NanoViricides, Inc., announced that it has signed a Research Agreement with the University of California, San Francisco for testing of its anti-HIV drug candidates. Cheryl Stoddart, PhD, Assistant Professor in the UCSF Division of Experimental Medicine, will be the Principal Investigator.

Large number of people do not see health-care provider for skin cancer screening: Survey

Despite the fact that skin cancer is the only cancer that can be seen on the surface of the skin, a new survey by the American Academy of Dermatology reports that a large number of people are not taking the time to examine their skin for any changes that could be warning signs of skin cancer or seeing a health-care provider for a skin cancer screening.

Dartmouth College receives $35M to establish The Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science

Dartmouth College has received a $35 million commitment to establish The Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science, President Jim Yong Kim announced today. The anonymous gift will advance a new field of study, harnessing the knowledge and expertise of faculty across multiple disciplines from the arts and sciences as well as from the medical, business and engineering schools.

Canadian cancer patients cross the border for second opinion

Two years ago, Beverlee London of Toronto was diagnosed with Stage I lung cancer. London was given the news by her lung specialist in Toronto that she had a malignant tumor on her right lung. She also decided at the time to visit the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center in Detroit for a second opinion, since she had family living in the area.

BUSM researchers identify clinical characteristics associated with PDUD in primary care patients

Researchers at Boston University School of Medicine have identified clinical characteristics associated with prescription drug use disorder in primary care patients with chronic pain. The study found that by identifying characteristics of prescription drug abuse, primary care clinicians can identify those at risk and provide appropriate treatment.

The George Washington University Board of Trustees approve formation of GW School of Nursing

Today, The George Washington University Board of Trustees voted to approve the formation of the GW School of Nursing. The nursing school will be composed of the Master of Science in Nursing programs, the Doctor of Nursing Practice program, the second degree Bachelor of Science in nursing program, and other post-masters certificate programs.
