New technique may improve treatments for heart disease

Spanish researchers have employed for the first time adult cells extracted from a human heart to turn stem cells from adipose tissue into cardiac myocytes. In other words, they achieved to "reprogram" adult stem cells, which might improve treatments for heart disease therapeutical.

Data on retreatment experiences with brentuximab vedotin in clinical trials to be presented at 2010 ASCO

Seattle Genetics, Inc. and Millennium: The Takeda Oncology Company today announced that data regarding retreatment experiences with brentuximab vedotin in phase I and phase II clinical trials will be presented during a poster session at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) being held June 4-8, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois.

Study explores genetic imbalances that give rise to childhood brain tumors

The most comprehensive analysis yet of the genetic imbalances at the heart of childhood brain tumors known as high-grade gliomas (HGGs) identified a cancer gene that is unusually active in some tumors and is now the focus of a St. Jude Children's Research Hospital clinical trial.

Researchers identify drug that improves communication between nerve cells in Phelan-McDermid Syndrome

Researchers from Mount Sinai School of Medicine have identified a drug that improves communication between nerve cells in a mouse model of Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS). Behavioral symptoms of PMS fall under the autism spectrum disorder category. The research will be presented Friday at the International Meeting for Autism Research (IMFAR) in Philadelphia.

Researchers at Mayo Clinic's campus in Florida have discovered a key gene that, when turned off, promotes the development of common kidney cancer. Their findings suggest that a combination of agents now being tested in other cancers may turn the gene back on, providing a much-needed therapy for the difficult-to-treat cancer.

Results of BioSante's 2A/Furin technology in industrial antibody CHO expression system announced

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that results of an evaluation of its 2A/Furin technology by Novartis Pharma AG in its industrial antibody CHO expression system were published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology & Biotechnology. The results demonstrate that the 2A/Furin technology was integrated successfully into a plasmid-based, industrial-scale, CHO antibody cell line development process, with minimal optimization required.
