Eli Lilly to present results of two Phase II trials evaluating ALIMTA in combination with chemotherapy, radiation

Results of two Phase II trials evaluating ALIMTA (pemetrexed for injection) in combination with a platinum chemotherapy and radiation for patients with locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer will be presented by Eli Lilly and Company at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago, Ill., on June 6, 2010.

Genentech to present new data for targeted cancer medicines at 46th ASCO

Genentech, Inc., a wholly owned member of the Roche Group, today announced that it will present new data for its targeted cancer medicines and the way they may be used in several different cancer types at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Approximately 400 abstracts featuring Genentech and Roche's cancer medicines and investigational agents across 30 cancer types will be presented during the meeting that is taking place June 4 to 8, 2010 in Chicago.

Exelixis reports interim data from XL184 phase 2 trial for recurrent glioblastoma at ASCO 2010

Exelixis, Inc. today reported promising interim data from an ongoing phase 2 trial of XL184 in patients with recurrent glioblastoma (GB), the most common and aggressive form of brain cancer. Dr. Patrick Wen from the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA will present the data in an Oral Session (Abstract #2006) on Saturday, June 5 at 5:00 p.m. at the 2010 Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology in Chicago.

Phase II study results of Lilly Oncology's tasisulam for metastatic melanoma to be presented at 46th ASCO

Lilly released results today from a Phase II study evaluating Lilly Oncology's tasisulam, a novel anti-cancer agent, in patients with metastatic melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer. Study results will be presented during the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) held in Chicago, Ill. on June 6, 2010.

MSCRF awards grants to 42 projects under Maryland Stem Cell Research Act of 2006

The Maryland Stem Cell Research Commission has completed its evaluation of the 141 applications in response to its three official Requests for Applications during the FY 2010 funding cycle. The board of directors of the Maryland Technology Development Corporation reviewed the Commission's recommendations and approved 42 projects totaling $11.7 million in funding through the Maryland Stem Cell Research Fund under the Maryland Stem Cell Research Act of 2006.

ZymoGenetics' IL-21 Phase 2 trial data in metastatic melanoma to be presented at ASCO annual meeting

ZymoGenetics, Inc. announced that final progression-free survival results will be presented from a Phase 2 clinical trial in patients with Stage 4 metastatic melanoma at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) annual meeting in Chicago on June 5, 2010 in an oral presentation. The open-label multi-center clinical trial evaluated 3 dose regimens of Interleukin 21 (IL-21) in 40 patients with no prior systemic therapy for metastatic melanoma.

Positive results from Phase 1 study evaluating IV administration of JX-594 to metastatic cancer patients

Jennerex, Inc., a clinical-stage cancer biotherapeutics company, today reported positive results from its Phase 1 dose escalation study evaluating the intravenous administration of JX-594 to patients with metastatic cancer. The data presented today demonstrated clear dose-related delivery to solid tumors, cancer-targeted replication and gene expression, and anti-cancer effects of JX-594 delivered IV.

JCVI researchers construct first self-replicating, synthetic bacterial cell

Researchers at the J. Craig Venter Institute (JCVI), a not-for-profit genomic research organization, published results today describing the successful construction of the first self-replicating, synthetic bacterial cell. The team synthesized the 1.08 million base pair chromosome of a modified Mycoplasma mycoides genome.
