Mesoblast broadens cancer indications for bone marrow transplant product

Australian regenerative medicine company Mesoblast Limited (ASX: MSB, USOTC: MBLTY) today announced that it is broadening the oncology applications of its "off-the-shelf" cell product for expansion of haematopoietic stem cells in patients with blood cancers. Building on the recent clinical success of Mesoblast’s proprietary cell product for expansion of cord blood, the Company will now address new markets where expansion of haematopoietic stem cells can make a meaningful impact on clinical outcomes, including diseases such as multiple myeloma.

Aeras Global receives FDA grant to develop biomarkers for TB vaccine

The Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation is pleased to announce receipt of a grant from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to develop new biological and immunological biomarkers for TB vaccine development. The FDA grant, which supports the coordination of a multi-investigator project with researchers from the United States, the United Kingdom and South Africa, will provide $362,102 in the first year of funding.

Functional profiling using EVA/PCD for prescribing treatment regimens for Stage IV NSCLC improve survival

A team of investigators at Rational Therapeutics, Inc. and the Malcolm Todd Cancer Institute (Long Beach, Calif.) has reported that functional profiling using ex-vivo analysis of programmed cell death (EVA/PCD) can be used to prescribe treatment regimens that double the response rate and survival in patients with Stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The findings of their phase II clinical trial will be presented on Sunday, June 6th at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Chicago.

Cell Therapeutics reports cardiac safety results from phase II trial of pixantrone in CHOP-R regimen

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. reported today preliminary cardiac safety results from a North American randomized phase II trial which substituted pixantrone for doxorubicin in the standard CHOP-R regimen. Called PIX203, the randomized trial compared CPOP-R directly to CHOP-R in the 1st line treatment of high risk patients with diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (DLBCL, NHL).
