Researchers have previously been able to analyse which sugar structures are to be found on certain proteins, but not exactly where on the protein they are positioned. This is now possible thanks to a new technique developed at the Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.

Angiochem reports Phase 1/2 efficacy study results of ANG1005 for treating brain cancer

Angiochem, Inc. a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing drugs that are uniquely capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier to treat brain diseases, announced today that its lead drug candidate, ANG1005, has demonstrated a favorable safety and efficacy profile in more than 100 patients with brain cancer from two separate Phase 1 /2 clinical studies in patients with progressive gliomas, including recurrent glioblastoma, and in patients with progressive brain metastases.

Blocking newly discovered second molecular pathway may prevent angiogenesis: UCLA researchers

Researchers at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) have found that a second molecular pathway may need to be blocked to prevent malignant cells from creating new blood vessels [angiogenesis]. A study of patients with pancreatic cancer showed that CXCL5 may be a key molecule in the angiogenesis switch—the point at which cells stop being normal and start producing blood vessels that feed malignancy.

NIH awards a $2.2M grant to biochemist for a high-resolution electron microscope

Waltham, MA-Researchers' ability to rapidly detect the macromolecular protein clumps implicated in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases will soon get a sizable boost in the lab of biochemist and Howard Hughes Medical Investigator Nikolaus Grigorieff.
