when "gayness" was not talked about - and that was because of the dire consequences from religious zealots- men and women lived lives of lies if they survived witout committing suicide as a teenager or young person. Even today in many parts of Australia and America young gay men in particular are beaten and killed for being openly gay. It is fantastic that you are accepting and would vote for gay marriage but if it had not been discussed ad nauseum you wouldn't be the enlightened supportive person that you are. You are only truly accepting if you are willing to stand up and speak out loud your acceptance - standing against bigotry and fundamentalism - much courage is needed to do this but you would be surprised at peoples reactions.
