    This 2014 article needs a knowledgeable update.  Just recently the standard for care in the case of (at least) stage 4 RCC, is moving towards the recently approved Nivolumab.  This is an every other week IV infusion (takes a hour).  No pain, generally no side effects (though you are monitored for Liver, Kidney and other function levels, as this treatment amps up part of your immune system, so YOU attack RCC cells, the downside is that a fairly rare side effect is that in some cases your systems can be adversely affected. Good luck to all who are fighting this disease. . .
