Drug delivery is a term that refers to the delivery of a pharmaceutical compound into the body. Most common methods of delivery include the preferred non-invasive oral (through the mouth), nasal, pneumonial (inhalation), and rectal routes. Much research is now focussing on nanotechnology as a drug delivery method.

Elis granted exclusive rights to market Apricus Bio's Vitaros in the Gulf and part of the Middle East

Apricus Biosciences, Inc. and Elis Pharmaceuticals, announced today that the two companies have entered into a licensing agreement granting Elis the exclusive rights to market Apricus Bio's new drug for erectile dysfunction, Vitaros®, in the Gulf and part of the Middle East. "This new agreement is the next step in our strategy of seeking to partner Vitaros in more than 100 countries around the world," said Dr. Bassam Damaj, President and Chief Executive Officer of Apricus Bio.

FDA clears first automated molecular tests to diagnose and differentiate HSV infection

BD Diagnostics, a segment of BD, announced today that it filed for U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance for the first fully automated molecular tests to diagnose and differentiate HSV types 1 and 2.

NEI awards Case Western Reserve $10M for study of retinal diseases

The Departments of Pharmacology and Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine have been awarded a $10.1 million grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI) to research and develop new treatments for diseases of the retina, a leading cause of blindness.

Alimera receives FDA CRL for ILUVIEN NDA

pSivida Corp., a leader in developing sustained release, drug delivery products for treatment of back-of-the-eye diseases, including the investigational drug ILUVIEN® for the treatment of Diabetic Macular Edema (DME), today announced that Alimera Sciences, Inc, pSivida's collaborative partner, received a Complete Response Letter (CRL) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding its New Drug Application (NDA) for ILUVIEN. The FDA issued the CRL to communicate its decision that the NDA cannot be approved in its present form.

Intellipharmaceutics announces delay of patent approvement to market Protonix drug

Intellipharmaceutics International, today announced that it has notified the U.S. Food and Drug Administration that it has not received notification, as provided for under the Hatch-Waxman Act, of any patent infringement proceedings by the brand owner, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pfizer, for its application to market a generic of Wyeth's Protonix® tablets.

Emisphere, Novo Nordisk partner to develop and commercialize oral formulations of insulins

Emisphere Technologies, Inc. and Novo Nordisk A/S today announced that they have entered into an exclusive Development and License Agreement to develop and commercialize oral formulations of Novo Nordisk's insulins, which have the potential of treating diabetes, using Emisphere's Eligen® Technology. This is the second license agreement between the two companies. The first agreement, for the development of oral formulations of GLP-1 receptor agonists, was signed in June 2008, with a potential drug currently in a Phase I clinical trial.

GSK, Impax enter global development, commercialization agreement for PD investigational product, IPX066

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) and Impax Pharmaceuticals, the brand products division of Impax Laboratories, Inc. (Impax), today announced an agreement for the development and commercialization of IPX066, Impax's novel extended release carbidopa-levodopa product, outside the United States and Taiwan. IPX066, an investigational product under development for the treatment of Parkinson's Disease (PD), is currently in Phase III clinical trials.
