Activity in lateral prefrontal cortex may improve emotion regulation in day-to-day life

Common wisdom tells us that for a successful relationship partners shouldn't go to bed angry. But new research from a psychologist at Harvard University suggests that brain activity-specifically in the region called the lateral prefrontal cortex-is a far better indicator of how someone will feel in the days following a fight with his or her partner.

Study validates Chronix Biomedical’s serum DNA blood tests for early, accurate detection of breast cancer

Chronix Biomedical today announced publication of a study that supports the utility of its serum DNA blood tests for the early and accurate detection of breast cancer. The Chronix tests detect the circulating DNA that is released into the blood stream by damaged and dying cells. A growing body of publications from Chronix and other researchers shows that this circulating DNA can be identified and analyzed to provide a diagnostic window into ongoing changes in the genome associated with specific diseases—changes that can be used to identify disease processes at an early stage and to track responses to treatment.

Sartorius achieves operating earnings of 60.9M euros for 2009

Sartorius, a leading international laboratory and process equipment provider, increased its operating profit in 2009 despite the difficult macroeconomic climate and achieved operating earnings of 60.9 million euros, up from 56.8 million euros a year earlier. “As a result, we are among the companies that were able to close the 2009 year of crisis with a positive development of operating earnings,” commented CEO Dr. Joachim Kreuzburg on the company’s full-year results at the annual press conference in Goettingen, Germany.

USF study: HHV-6 causes permanent infection by inserting its DNA into human chromosomes

Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) infects nearly 100 percent of humans in early childhood, and the infection then lasts for the rest of a person's life. Now, a team led by Peter Medveczky, MD, a professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the University of South Florida, has discovered that in some individuals, HHV-6 causes such a permanent infection by inserting or "integrating" its DNA into human chromosomes.

Comparative study reveals no clinical advantages of mobile bearing knee systems over fixed bearing knee systems

DiagnoCure: Global studies confirm clinical utility of PROGENSA PCA3 test

DiagnoCure, Inc., a life sciences company commercializing high-value cancer diagnostic tests and delivering laboratory services, announced that the clinical utility of the PROGENSA(R) PCA3 test, developed and commercialized by its partner Gen-Probe, was confirmed in two large worldwide studies, conducted in a subset of patients in GlaxoSmithKline's REDUCE trial of dutasteride.
