Drug delivery is a term that refers to the delivery of a pharmaceutical compound into the body. Most common methods of delivery include the preferred non-invasive oral (through the mouth), nasal, pneumonial (inhalation), and rectal routes. Much research is now focussing on nanotechnology as a drug delivery method.

Intarcia presents ITCA 650 Phase 2 study results at 70th ADA

Intarcia Therapeutics, Inc. presented today the results of a phase 2 clinical study of ITCA 650 (DUROS® continuous subcutaneous delivery of exenatide) for the treatment of type 2 diabetes as a late-breaker at the Annual Conference of the American Diabetes Association in Orlando, FL (June 25-29, 2010). Results of the phase 2 study demonstrated substantial reductions in HbA1c and body weight during the 12 weeks of treatment with ITCA 650 at both the 20 mcg/day and 40 mcg/day doses.

PecFent receives Positive Opinion from CHMP for treatment of BTCP

The investors are Deerfield Management Company and other institutional investors. BioSante received net proceeds of approximately $14.2 million after deducting placement agent fees and other offering expenses.

FDA approves Hospira's meropenem for injection, USP (I.V.)

Hospira, Inc., the world leader in generic injectable pharmaceuticals, today announced it has received U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval for meropenem for injection, USP (I.V.) 500 mg and 1 g vials. The medication, a carbapenem that belongs to the beta-lactam class of antibiotics, is a generic version of AstraZeneca's Merrem® I.V. Sales of the name-brand product in the United States were approximately $200 million in 2009.

Independent DMC recommends continuation of BioSante's ongoing LibiGel CV and Breast Cancer Safety Study

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc., today announced that the independent Data Monitoring Committee (DMC) of the ongoing LibiGel® Cardiovascular (CV) and Breast Cancer Safety Study unanimously recommended study continuation without modifications, after its third review of the study's unblinded safety data. The review was based on data from almost 1,500 women-years of exposure.
