BioSante announces $15 million registered direct offering

BioSante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. today announced that it has received commitments from several institutional investors to purchase $15 million of securities in a registered direct offering. The investors are Deerfield Management Company and other institutional investors. BioSante expects to receive net proceeds of approximately $14.2 million after deducting placement agent fees and other offering expenses.

Effects of periodic constrictions on drift, diffusion in systems experiencing driving force

An understanding of particle diffusion in the presence of constrictions is essential in fields as diverse as drug delivery, cellular biology, nanotechnology, materials engineering, and spread of pollutants in the soil. When a driving force is applied, displacement of particles occurs as well as diffusion. A paper in the Journal of Chemical Physics, which is published by the American Institute of Physics (AIP), quantifies the effects of periodic constrictions on drift and diffusion in systems experiencing a driving force.

GSK acquires exclusive marketing rights for new topical patch from Labtec GmbH

In a recently finalized license agreement, the Consumer Healthcare division of GlaxoSmithKline acquired the exclusive marketing rights for a new topical patch for the treatment of cold sores from Labtec GmbH, the transdermal and topical patch specialist based in Langenfeld, Germany. The agreement designates Labtec as the exclusive manufacturer.

Study shows effective and efficient methods for producing recombinant proteins

A shift in the life science market has begun to steer cell culture scientists to re-evaluate their use of native transferrin and iron chelators to pursue recombinant alternatives. Transferrin regulates the uptake, transport and utilization of iron for cellular function, increasing cell growth and productivity. Native transferrin found in bovine or human serum has been widely used in cell culture for these added benefits. However, regulatory issues continue to arise with the use of native transferrin due to blood-borne pathogens.

Cytokine PharmaSciences, Inc. today announced the completion of a Phase II study of the misoprostol vaginal insert (MVI), a proprietary, controlled-release and retrievable polymer chip containing prostaglandin E(1) (PGE1). AMA recommends classification of e-cigarettes as drug delivery devices

New policy adopted today by the American Medical Association (AMA) recommends that electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) be classified as drug delivery devices, subject to the same FDA regulations as all other drug delivery devices. Additional policy adopted supports prohibiting the sale of e-cigarettes that are not FDA approved.
