Drug delivery is a term that refers to the delivery of a pharmaceutical compound into the body. Most common methods of delivery include the preferred non-invasive oral (through the mouth), nasal, pneumonial (inhalation), and rectal routes. Much research is now focussing on nanotechnology as a drug delivery method.

Nanosponge delivery system more effective at reducing tumor growth than direct injection: Study

When loaded with an anticancer drug, a delivery system based on a novel material called nanosponge is three to five times more effective at reducing tumor growth than direct injection.

UTHealth, UH awarded $150,000 grant to find cure and better treatments for Alzheimer's disease

Cure Alzheimer's Fund recently awarded the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and the University of Houston a $150,000 grant to fund innovative research on Alzheimer's disease, which currently affects 5.3 million Americans and their families and is the most common cause of dementia in the elderly.

Prohibiting cap messages will increase medication errors: Survey

At a meeting today of the United States Pharmacopeia's (USP) Nomenclature Expert Committee, the Consortium for the Advancement of Patient Safety (CAPS) presented results of an independent study producing a landmark three-part report, including a human factors engineering (HFE) analysis, on the relationship between patient safety and printed messages on ferrule and cap overseals used to secure injectable drug vials.

6-month results of NovoStent's SAMBA trial for atherosclerotic disease in SFA and popliteal arteries

Positive results reported from Phase IIa clinical trial of intranasal oxytocin for CDH

Trigemina, Inc., a Mountain View based privately-held biopharmaceutical company, reports positive results from a time-based interim analysis of its Phase IIa clinical trial in Chronic Daily Headache. The trial is a collaborative effort between Trigemina and Dr. Egilius Spierings of MedVadis Research Corporation located outside of Boston. The study compares intranasal oxytocin with placebo in patients suffering from CDH.

Joint research by UB and CDC could lead to new generation of antiviral medicines

Future pandemics of seasonal flu, H1N1 and other drug-resistant viruses may be thwarted by a potent, immune-boosting payload that is effectively delivered to cells by gold nanorods, report scientists at the University at Buffalo and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The work is published in the current issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
