CT colonography screening identifies unsuspected cancer outside of colon

A new, large-scale study of more than 10,000 adults found that more than one in every 200 asymptomatic people screened with CT colonography, or virtual colonoscopy, had clinically unsuspected malignant cancer and more than half of the cancers were located outside the colon. The findings were published in the April issue of the journal Radiology.

Walnut consumption slows the growth of prostate cancer in mice and has beneficial effects on multiple genes related to the control of tumor growth and metabolism, UC Davis and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Western Regional Research Center in Albany, Calif. have found.

BCBSGA, OneSight bring regional clinic to Georgia to provide free vision care for school children

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia and OneSight®, a Luxottica Group Foundation have teamed to bring a regional clinic to Georgia from today, Monday, March 22, through Friday, March 26. Clayton County, Henry County and Spalding County Schools pre-selected approximately 600 students from kindergarten through high school based on their financial and vision needs to receive free vision care, including full vision exams and new eyewear.

The Life Beyond Cancer Foundation, formerly known as the US Oncology Foundation, announced today that it has launched its new Web site at www.lifebeyondcancer.org. Touting an array of resources for cancer patients throughout the United States, the foundation's mission is to help cancer patients and their families connect with financial assistance, support programs and other necessary resources that can help them on their cancer journey.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a leader in setting the agenda for diabetes research worldwide, said today that it will begin a diabetes research collaboration with Pfizer, Hadassah Medical Organization, and The Hebrew University of Jerusalem on drugs to replicate and regenerate insulin-producing cells in people with type 1 diabetes.

The Great Purple Cupcake Project is an initiative of The Anita Kaufmann Foundation -- an American epilepsy education organization and the US Sponsor of Purple Day for epilepsy awareness.

Health insurance reform legislation: Speaker Nancy Pelosi's remarks on the House floor

Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor tonight in support of historic health insurance reform legislation. The House passed the Senate version of health insurance reform legislation by a vote of 219 to 212. That bill now goes to the President for his signature into law. A second bill, to improve the Senate bill, passed by a vote of 220 to 211 and goes to the Senate. Below are the Speaker's remarks.
