Phase I study results of Pharmacyclics' PCI-32765 Btk inhibitor for B cell NHL presented at ASCO

Pharmacyclics, Inc. today announced results from a Phase I study of its novel orally administered Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) inhibitor, PCI-32765, in patients with relapsed or refractory B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) including chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and Waldenstroms Macroglobulinemia (WM). These data are being presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting taking place this week in Chicago, IL.

Poor survival rates in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma patients attributed to lifestyle factors

A new study led by researchers from Mayo Clinic in collaboration with six other U.S. institutions has found that patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma who smoked, consumed alcohol or were obese before their cancer diagnosis had poorer overall survival, compared to patients who did not have these risk factors.

Genentech to present new data for targeted cancer medicines at 46th ASCO

Genentech, Inc., a wholly owned member of the Roche Group, today announced that it will present new data for its targeted cancer medicines and the way they may be used in several different cancer types at the 46th Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Approximately 400 abstracts featuring Genentech and Roche's cancer medicines and investigational agents across 30 cancer types will be presented during the meeting that is taking place June 4 to 8, 2010 in Chicago.

Cell Therapeutics reports cardiac safety results from phase II trial of pixantrone in CHOP-R regimen

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. reported today preliminary cardiac safety results from a North American randomized phase II trial which substituted pixantrone for doxorubicin in the standard CHOP-R regimen. Called PIX203, the randomized trial compared CPOP-R directly to CHOP-R in the 1st line treatment of high risk patients with diffuse large B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (DLBCL, NHL).

CTI to conduct phase II study of pixantrone in patients with HER2-negative breast cancer

Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (CTI) today announced an agreement with the North Central Cancer Treatment Group (NCCTG) to conduct a phase II study of pixantrone in patients with HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer who have tumor progression after at least two, but not more than three, prior chemotherapy regimens.

Compugen discovers CGEN-928 as antibody drug target for treatment of multiple myeloma

Compugen Ltd. announced today the discovery and initial experimental validation of CGEN-928 as a drug target for the treatment of multiple myeloma. In recently completed studies, CGEN-928, a membrane protein which previously had no known function or potential clinical utility, demonstrated broad expression in human multiple myeloma tumor cells, including drug resistant and aggressive primary tumor cell lines.

Researchers develop new type of drug to kill non-Hodgkin lymphoma tumor cells

Three researchers who are recipients of a collaborative grant from the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation have developed a new type of drug designed to kill non-Hodgkin lymphoma tumor cells. The breakthrough could lead to potential non-toxic therapies for cancer patients. The Foundation-funded investigators include Ari Melnick, M.D., of Weill Cornell Medical College, Alexander MacKerell, Ph.D., of the University of Maryland and Gilbert Priv-, Ph.D., of the University of Toronto.
