NCH advances cardiovascular service line in northwest suburbs

Northwest Community Healthcare is strengthening cardiovascular care for patients in the northwest suburbs by advancing its cardiovascular service line. NCH has new relationships with cardiothoracic surgeons, vascular surgeons and cardiologists, and, in addition, has announced plans to open a new heart failure clinic this fall in Mount Prospect.

Study suggests potential treatment for cardiovascular disease in people with apoE4 gene variant

Researchers at UT-Southwestern Medical Center have found that the most common variant of the circulating protein apolipoprotein E, called apoE3, helps repair the lining of blood vessels. Individuals with another variant, called apoE4, do not get the benefit of this repair, putting them at higher risk for cardiovascular disease.

Oraya Therapeutics Inc. announced that full results of three-year safety follow-up data from the INTREPID study of Oraya Therapy™ for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) further demonstrated a favorable safety profile and also showed that there was no significant difference in vision outcomes in patients treated with Oraya Therapy compared with those receiving anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections alone.
