Boston Scientific reports first use in Europe of Blazer Open-Irrigated Catheter

Boston Scientific Corporation today announced CE Mark approval and first use in Europe of its Blazer™ Open-Irrigated Catheter, the Company's latest radiofrequency ablation (RFA) catheter designed to treat a variety of arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, ventricular tachycardia and other supraventricular tachycardias. The product is being launched this quarter in select CE Mark countries.

Animal studies reveal new route to treating heart disease

Scientists at Johns Hopkins have shown in laboratory experiments in mice that blocking the action of a signaling protein deep inside the heart’s muscle cells blunts the most serious ill effects of high blood pressure on the heart. The fact that doctors-in-training don't get enough of it has resulted in regulations governing duty hours in resident training programs across the nation. In 2002, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) reduced the number of hours that resident physicians can work to 80 hours per week.

Heparan sulfate may have a key role in tumor-spurred lymphatic vessel growth
