Patient enrollment for PLATINUM workhorse trial completed by Boston Scientific

Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) today announced the completion of patient enrollment in the workhorse portion of its PLATINUM clinical program. PLATINUM is a global, randomized, pivotal controlled trial designed to support U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) approval of the platinum chromium PROMUS((R)) Element(TM) Everolimus-Eluting Coronary Stent System.

Interim data from GORE PROPATEN Vascular Graft studies presented at the 2009 vascular meeting

W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) today announced that several physicians recently presented interim data from ongoing GORE PROPATEN® Vascular Graft studies to clinical audiences at the 2009 annual vascular meeting. The conference, the premier event hosted by the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS), was held in mid-June in Denver, Colorado. One physician reported primary patency rates as high as 100 percent for below-knee bypasses.

Pervasis Therapeutics raises funds to support clinical development programs

Pervasis Therapeutics, Inc. today announced that it completed the initial closing of a $17 million third round of financing. The proceeds will be used primarily to support the company's ongoing clinical development programs, including PVS-10200, a biologically active therapy designed to reestablish healthy vasculature following common interventions to treat peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and potentially other conditions.

Study: Therapy addition reduces risk of stroke and other cardiovascular events

Data from the independent KYOTO HEART study, presented recently at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and published online in the European Heart Journal demonstrated the addition of the angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) Diovan (valsartan) to a non-ARB-based treatment regimen for high blood pressure provided a significant 45% relative risk reduction in cardiovascular events(1) including stroke, compared to conventional non-ARB treatment regimen.(1)
