Compugen announces development of PPI Blockers Discovery Platform

Compugen Ltd. announced today the development of its Protein-Protein Interaction Blockers (PPI Blockers) Discovery Platform, designed for the prediction of peptides to block disease associated protein-protein interactions. In a pilot validation run, predicted peptides showed positive results for drug targets in two cancer related pathways of interest to the industry.

Cyclooxygenase-2 represents a key modulatory molecule in inflammation and carcinogenesis. COX-2 is known to have multiple tumorigenic effects. Increased expression of COX-2 has been observed in a variety of tumors including pancreatic cancer.

Immunomedics' blood assay for PAM4-protein can detect pancreatic cancer and predict early relapse

Immunomedics, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing monoclonal antibodies to treat cancer and other serious diseases, today reported that a new blood test using the Company's proprietary humanized antibody, clivatuzumab or PAM4, predicted a partial response in an initial set of patients treated with a combination of the antibody labeled with yttrium-90 (Y-90) and gemcitabine. Results were presented at the 101st Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Genentech to pay Seattle Genetics $9.5M for renewing licenses under existing ADC collaboration agreement

Seattle Genetics, Inc. today announced that Genentech, Inc., a wholly owned member of the Roche Group, will pay $9.5 million to renew exclusive licenses to specific targets and extend the research term under the parties' existing antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) collaboration agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, Genentech has rights to use Seattle Genetics' ADC technology with antibodies against targets selected by Genentech.

MUC1 expression indicates progression of pediatric inflammatory bowel disease

Millions of people are afflicted with inflammatory bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, and 30 percent of new cases occur in childhood. Mucin 1, an epithelial mucin that has been shown to elicit both an immune response and to have altered glycosylation in disease, may be a noninvasive indicator of the progression of these illnesses.

NanoImaging Services receives grant to develop methods for characterization of nanoparticle morphology

NanoImaging Services, Inc., announced today that it has received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the National Institutes of Health through the National Center for Research Resources to develop new methods for quantitative characterization of nanoparticle morphology and aggregation state using transmission electron microscopy. The grant provides approximately $200,000 in research and development funds for a Phase I study.
