    Some pseudosciences manage to fly under the radar because they have mainstream endorsement for ideological reasons. For example, over thirty years ago Paul Okami wrote about how the child sexual abuse field is overrun with junk science because of an unholy alliance of religious conservatives and radical feminists ("Sociopolitical Biases in the Contemporary Scientific Literature on Adult Human Sexual Behavior with Children and Adolescents," 1990). As some examples he discusses in the paper illustrate, this can result in iatrogenic gaslighting of a great many young people, and it doesn't seem to have gotten any better since that time.
