I was on statins for years because my doctor thought my cholesterol needed lowering even though it wasn't that high and my ratios were good. When I started getting sick, he dismissed it as menopause. I ached all over my body. I had such bad muscle cramps that I couldn't walk. I felt tired all the time and my blood sugar was all over the place. NOT ONCE did he ever consider the statins could be causing a problem.

I stopped taking the statins after reading about the dangers. I started feeling better after about a week. After about a month, my co-workers asked what I was doing because I looked so much better. When I said I just stopped taking statins, two of the ladies I work with shared that they, too, had gotten sick on statins.

It's easy for doctors to sneer at patients that stains are wonderful and most people tolerate them very well. All I know is how I felt while taking them and how much better I feel now that I'm not. No more blood sugar problems or terrible muscle cramps, more energy, AND my cholesterol is better than it was on the statins with two grams of plant sterols a day. My doctor never even discussed diet and exercise and he got mad when I stopped taking the statins. He wasn't interested in my health, he never listened to how I was feeling and he never even suggested it could be a problem with the medication. I will never take a statin again. I'm not going to sacrifice quality of life just so some cholesterol numbers line up with what the doctor thinks is right.
