I experience chills from music and it is usually coupled with euphoria.  It's not the same as what you get from opiates but I can see it working for pain a little.  I use music for anxiety but for it to work no one can talk to me and expect an answer because I gotta get lost in it.  Which would bring me back to why I can see it working for pain because if you aren't thinking about it it's not as intense.
