Get tested for hereditary hemochromatosis. I am compound heterogeneous for the disease. Even before I began donating blood, my ferritin remained low while my serum iron and transferrin saturation would always come in super high. Some doctors just test the ferritin levels. This does not allow them to see the full picture. Testing transferrin saturation is a much better predictor of the potential presence of the HH genes.
