    While very exciting, the approach is hardly new. Several groups has already demonstrated that live-attenuated vaccine are significantly more effective than the subunit gD-2 approaches. For instance: Halford WP, Püschel R, Gershburg E, Wilber A, Gershburg S, et al. (2011) A Live-Attenuated HSV-2 ICP0− Virus Elicits 10 to 100 Times Greater Protection against Genital Herpes than a Glycoprotein D Subunit Vaccine.
