Linagliptin significantly reduces blood glucose levels in T2D patients with moderate to severe renal impairment

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company today announced results from a new study in which linagliptin demonstrated statistically significant reductions in blood glucose levels (HbA1c) after 12 weeks (the study's primary endpoint) in adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D) with moderate to severe renal impairment, compared with placebo. Most patients had T2D for more than ten years (76 percent) and were on insulin (86 percent).

Merck, Pfizer sign collaboration agreement for development and commercialization of ertugliflozin

Merck & Co., Inc., known as MSD outside the United States and Canada, and Pfizer Inc. today announced that they have entered into a worldwide (except Japan) collaboration agreement for the development and commercialization of Pfizer's ertugliflozin (PF-04971729), an investigational oral sodium glucose cotransporter (SGLT2) inhibitor being evaluated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes.

Lilly, Boehringer Ingelheim receive positive opinion from EMA for Jentadueto

Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company today announced that they have received a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency's medicinal committee recommending approval of Jentadueto,which combines the DPP-4 inhibitor, linagliptin and metformin in a single tablet. If approved by the European Commission, linagliptin/metformin hydrochloride (HCl) will provide a new, single-tablet treatment option, taken twice-daily, for adults with Type 2 Diabetes who need to improve control of their blood glucose.

Linagliptin safe and effective for African American patients with type 2 diabetes

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company today announced Phase 3 study results for linagliptin 5 mg once-daily, which showed significant hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c or A1C) reduction of 0.88 percent compared to 0.24 percent in the placebo group (p=0.0002) at 24 weeks in black or African American adult patients with type 2 diabetes whose blood sugar was not adequately controlled.
