UIC receives $7 million for developing programs to prevent adolescent depression

The University of Illinois at Chicago has been awarded $7 million in funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to develop programs to prevent depression among teens.

Dust lead levels in homes of pregnant women can be lowered than previously deemed achievable

New data from a long-term study of 355 mothers and their children found that fixing peeling paint and removing other household sources of lead during the mother's pregnancy can reduce levels of dust lead in homes to levels significantly lower than previously deemed achievable.

New drug-resistant strains of the parasite that causes malaria tend to evolve in regions with a lower risk of malaria. This is because in hard-hit areas with high transmission rates, like sub-Saharan Africa, they get outcompeted by the more common, drug-sensitive strains inside the human host.
