Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat continues to provide much needed services to the people of Haiti

Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat, a San Diego based OB-Gyn surgeon and intuitive healer is returning July 1st to Haiti, the land of her birth, to continue assisting in the humanitarian effort for that devastated country. She has assisted in coordinating a team of 50 doctors, dentists and other emergency medical professionals to accompany her to provide much needed services to the people of Haiti.

Young men who attempt suicide before age 18 are much more likely as adults to be aggressive toward their girlfriends or wives, including hitting and injuring their partners, according to a new study.

UJI participates in project OPTIMI for early detection of depression

Treatments for mental illnesses are based on medicines and on therapies. Nevertheless it is not being done much to develop effective systems to prevent the appearance of such illnesses. In January starts the European initiative OPTIMI to contribute to the early detection of depression. The research group Labpsitec of the Department of Basic and Clinical Psychology and Psychobiology at the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón, takes part in the project with the design of evaluation strategies for people in situation of risk.

Blood flow interruption during renal surgery can increase risk of chronic kidney disease

Interrupting the blood flow for more than 20 to 25 minutes during kidney cancer (http://www.mayoclinic.org/kidney-cancer/research.html) surgery leads to a greater risk for patients developing chronic kidney disease, a Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic collaborative research team has found. The study was published today in the journal, European Urology.

2010 GAPS sheds light on the painful reality of what life is like for gout patients

The 2010 Gout Attitudes Patient Survey, a new study of Americans with gout, released by Men's Health Network, sheds light on the painful reality of what life is like for the approximately five million Americans who live with this condition. Of those surveyed, 69 percent described the pain of a gout attack as "miserable," yet a quarter of gout patients feel that those without gout perceive them as overreacting to attacks, and 67 percent feel as though others do not take the condition seriously.

Cardiovascular imaging accounts for 30 percent of all the radiation patients receive in the U.S. and today, at the Society for Nuclear Medicine annual meeting, Spectrum Dynamics announced it has begun clinical studies to show that its D-SPECT™ technology can accommodate significantly lower doses of radiopharmaceutical agents so the total radiation exposure to patients and staff is much lower compared to conventional cardiac imaging.
