Only 20% of health policy researchers use social media for communication, shows survey

Though Twitter boats 645 million users across the world, only 14 percent of health policy researchers reported using Twitter - and approximately 20 percent used blogs and Facebook - to communicate their research findings over the past year, according to a new study from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

NICE approves MabThera for treating severe forms of GPA and MPA

Today the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has approved the use of MabThera for two potentially life-threatening auto-immune diseases, GPA and MPA, which result in the inflammation and damage of small blood vessels and frequently involve multiple organs. The two diseases affect over 13,000 people in the UK and are characterised by the breaking down of specific areas of tissue in the body that, if not treated, can lead to organ damage, organ failure and even death.

Fetal exposure to mycophenolic acid products may increase risk of birth defects

Research suggests that fetal exposure to mycophenolic acid products (MPA)—which are drugs taken by transplant recipients to prevent rejection—may increase the risk of birth defects and spontaneous abortions.
