Researchers develop new drugs that relieve cancer pain without side effects

Researchers at the University of Leicester and the University of Ferrara in Italy have collaborated to develop new drugs which have the potential to relieve cancer pain without causing many of the side effects of current pain-treatments like morphine.

Older breast cancer women in Scotland do not receive same level of treatment as younger patients

Older women in Scotland who have been diagnosed with breast cancer do not always receive the same level of treatment as younger patients, the charity Breakthrough Breast Cancer has said. According to the charity, Scottish women over the age of 80 are 40 times less likely to be offered surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer.

Arrhythmia Alliance launches 'Know Your Pulse' global awareness campaign on World Heart Rhythm Week

Arrhythmia Alliance, the Heart Rhythm Charity, announced today the results of a survey conducted in Europe that showed a large number of respondents ignore basic measures to check for potential cardiac arrhythmias, or heart rhythm disorders. To raise awareness of the importance of pulse checking and to inform people about how to take their pulse, the Arrhythmia Alliance will open 2010 World Heart Rhythm Week (7-13 June) with the launch of the global awareness campaign 'Know Your Pulse'.

Some politicians and hospital administrators worry that the new health law will cause rural facilities to lose revenue, bucking the trend of Washington's political establishment's long support for rural hospitals, the Omaha World-Herald reports. The law does have "pro-rural provisions" that received bipartisan support.
