Hospitals increase charity care with customized scoring solution

Medlytix, a national healthcare consulting firm, reported success this week in reaching a key half-billion dollar milestone - the total amount of money that its hospital clients have provided in financial assistance to more than a half-million patients nationwide by doing a better job of properly classifying charity care - in less than two years.

Immigrants lose lawsuit against hospital in Atlanta

"Efforts to force the public hospital [in Atlanta, Ga.] to continue providing free dialysis treatment to a group of immigrants, most of them illegal, suffered a setback on Tuesday when a judge dismissed a lawsuit challenging the recent closing of the hospital's outpatient renal clinic," The New York Times reports.

HealthEast Mental Health and Addiction Services premier program is the beneficiary of an $800,000 charitable gift by V.K. Arrigoni Foundation. This generous gift gives chemically dependent patients, without insurance or who are underinsured, access to the HealthEast inpatient services at St. Joseph's Hospital in downtown St. Paul and outpatient services at both St. Joseph's Hospital and St. John's Hospital in Maplewood.

Partners HealthCare System's series 2009J fixed-rate revenue bonds rated 'AA'

Fitch Ratings has assigned an 'AA' to Partners HealthCare System's approximately $475 million Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority revenue bonds (Partners HealthCare System), fixed-rate revenue bonds, series 2009J, which are expected to be sold as two sub series. Fitch also affirms its 'AA' long-term rating on all of Partners' outstanding debt and affirms its 'F1+' rating on approximately $485 million of Partners HealthCare System's debt that is backed by self-liquidity.
