Waters introduces new TQ-S and G2 QTof mass spectrometers for Xevo MS platform

Waters Corporation introduced today two new mass spectrometers for its Xevo MS platform – the Xevo TQ-S and Xevo G2 QTof – that bring a step change in performance to benchtop mass spectrometry. The product introductions were made at the 58th annual meeting of the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS).

Lithium reduces brain inflammation by adjusting metabolism of DHA: Researchers

Though it has been prescribed for over 50 years to treat bipolar disorder, there are still many questions regarding exactly how lithium works. However, in a study appearing in this month's Journal of Lipid Research, researchers have provided solid evidence that lithium reduces brain inflammation by adjusting the metabolism of the health-protective omega-3-fatty acid called DHA.

A new study from the Swedish medical university Karolinska Institutet presents a new technique that makes drug testing possible through exhaled air for the first time. By examining people who had received emergency care for an amphetamine overdose, the researchers found that in all cases there were traces of amphetamine and metamphetamine in the exhaled breath.

Sanofi-aventis commences multinational Phase IIIb PALLAS trial of Multaq in permanent AF patients

Sanofi-aventis announced today the initiation of a multinational, randomized double-blind Phase IIIb trial, PALLAS, to assess the potential clinical benefit of Multaq(R) (dronedarone) in over 10, 000 patients with permanent atrial fibrillation (AF) to reduce major adverse cardiovascular events.
