Lantus and Apidra injections improve glycemic control, reduce hospital complications: Study

Sanofi-aventis announced today that results from the RAndomized Study of Basal Bolus Insulin Therapy in the Inpatient Management of Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Undergoing General Surgery (RABBIT-2 Surgery) found that treatment with a basal-bolus regimen that included Lantus (insulin glargine [rDNA origin] injection) once-daily and Apidra (insulin glulisine [rDNA origin] injection) before meals improved glycemic control and reduced hospital complications, compared to "sliding scale" insulin in general surgery patients with type 2 diabetes.

KCI announces agreement to renew existing single-source contracts with KCI's TSS business

Kinetic Concepts, Inc. today announced an agreement with Novation, one of the health care industry's largest supply contracting companies, to renew its existing single-source contracts with KCI's Therapeutic Support Systems business through the end of 2013. Through Novation, KCI provides access to its innovative hospital beds, mattress replacement systems, overlays and bariatric products to more than 30,500 health care institutions across the U.S.

As most are aware we have been waiting for the Duke Study to be published in the ADVANCES IN SKIN AND WOUND CARE PUBLICATION JOURNAL. While everything has been submitted to the publisher and there have been two rounds of questions and clarifications resubmitted, we are confident and excited that we will have the results published in August or September.

Severity of appendicitis can be predicted from blood sample, shows thesis

The symptoms of appendicitis are often diffuse and it can be difficult to obtain an accurate diagnosis early in the course of the disease. It may be possible to predict the severity from a blood sample, and in this way determine the treatment on an individual basis. Alzheimer's disease may damage brain

Alzheimer's disease has long been studied primarily as a disease of neurons. But researchers have now shown how the disease may be damaging the brain by choking off blood flow. In experiments published June 10 in Neuron, scientists at Rockefeller University reveal that amyloid-β, which builds up around brain cells in Alzheimer's patients, interacts with a common blood clotting agent to increase clotting in the arteries that feed the brain.

KCI's Prevena Incision Management System receives FDA clearance
