Patients with coronary artery disease, heart failure, and atrial fibrillation receive comparable outpatient care from physicians and advanced practice providers-- physician assistants and nurse practitioners - although all clinicians fell short in meeting performance measures, according to a study published today in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.

The results of a major Commission report on women and health took center stage at the Donna E. Shalala Student Center, as Felicia Knaul, Ph.D., Director of the Miami Institute for the Americas at the University of Miami College of Arts & Sciences, presented a discussion of a Lancet study that found women are contributing around $3 trillion to global health care, but nearly half of this labor is unpaid, unrecognized and unaccounted for.

USPSTF recommendation against regular PSA screening may delay diagnosis of prostate cancer

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendation against regular prostate specific antigen (PSA) screening for prostate cancer is controversial. While it may reduce the risk of over diagnosis and overtreatment, the reduction in intermediate and high risk cancer diagnoses raises concern because of the potential for delayed diagnoses of important cancers in men who may benefit from treatment, according to investigators reporting in The Journal of Urology.
