Qualcomm's wireless Internet of Everything Module integrated into Telcare 3GM blood glucose meter

Qualcomm Incorporated and Telcare Incorporated today announced plans to integrate Qualcomm's wireless Internet of Everything Module (IEM) into the Telcare 3GM™ blood glucose meter being developed by Telcare. Telcare 3GM, currently in prototype phase, is designed to transfer blood glucose readings to a patient's family members or physician with each test.

Two out of three children have experienced bullying via the Internet or mobile phones according to a survey made by Telenor in 2008 in Norway. The survey also shows that parents are uncertain about what to do about this kind of bullying.

Novartis' Gilenya uptake to increase

A study published this week by ITG revealed that Novartis recently approved drug, Gilenya, has already taken share from market leaders in the multiple sclerosis (MS) market, and uptake is expected to increase significantly over the next year. Gilenya came onto the market in late September as the first FDA-approved oral disease-modifying MS drug, and Novartis initially faced safety concerns and monitoring requirements that deterred some physicians from adopting the new drug.

FDA warns against consumption of Sally Jackson cheese due to risk of E. coli O157:H7

The FDA, in cooperation with other state and local public health agencies, is warning consumers not to eat any Sally Jackson cheeses. The products were processed under conditions that create a significant risk of contamination of the unpasteurized raw milk and finished cheese, and Sally Jackson cheeses have been identified as one possible source of eight cases of E. coli O157 infections in an ongoing investigation.

e-cigarettes – Debate rages around globe

Following misleading advice that ‘e-cigarettes’ are a “healthy way” to quit smoking, thousands of smokers are switching to these electronic cigarettes. According to the Australian Medical Association (AMA) and anti-smoking groups these smokeless, battery-powered e-cigarettes packed with nicotine have not been tested for safety and could pose a serious health risk. Electronic cigarettes contain an inhaler, an atomiser and nicotine suspended in propylene glycol and water. At present they are banned in NSW and Victoria but overseas suppliers sell them online.

Research looks at early exposure to mobile phone risk

There has been plenty of speculation that mobile phones are not good for pregnant mums but a new study sheds light on the actual connection. It finds that pregnant women who regularly use mobile phones may be more likely to have children with behavioral problems, particularly if their children start using mobile phones in their first seven years. American researchers said that the risk of behavioral problems rose by 30% if such exposure was present. Those exposed before birth and in early childhood were at 50% higher risk than those who were not exposed they said.
