Global Fund Observer reports on new funding model progress

Aidspan, an independent watchdog of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, on Tuesday published Issue 208 of its "Global Fund Observer." Among others, the issue contains two stories on the new funding model (NFM), which, according to the first article, the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria expects to launch by the end of February.

No added benefit from linagliptin in patients with type 2 diabetes

Linagliptin has been approved since August 2011 to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes. The assessment of the new dossier according to the German Act on the Reform of the Market for Medicinal Products (AMNOG) again showed that no added benefit of the drug over the appropriate comparator therapy (ACT) can be determined, because the pharmaceutical company has not submitted any relevant studies.

The first article looks at the effects of the country's shrinking working-age population, which the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently announced "shrank last year by a total of 3.45 million," the magazine notes, adding, "The new statistics will amplify calls for reform of China's one-child policy."
