Clinical performance data of Cervista HPV HR presented at International Papillomavirus Conference

Hologic, Inc., a leading women's healthcare company, today announced that final data analysis from the first large-scale independent evaluation of clinical performance of Cervista HPV HR compared to Hybrid Capture 2, were presented in Montreal, Canada, at the 26th International Papillomavirus Conference. Cervista HPV HR is a diagnostic test for the detection of 14 high-risk human papillomavirus types.

New study demonstrates link between smoking and flat adenomas

According to a new study, smoking was found to have a strong association with the presence of flat adenomas (precancerous polyps) in the colon and may explain the earlier onset of colorectal cancer in smokers, as well as the advanced stage with which they present when compared to nonsmokers. Flat adenomas are more difficult to detect and have more aggressive pathology than the typical raised type of polyp detected during colorectal cancer screening.

GTx reports net income of $44.3M for first-quarter 2010 compared with net loss of $11.3M in 2009

The net income for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010 was $44.3 million compared with a net loss of $11.3 million for the same period in 2009. Net income for the current period included the recognition of approximately $54.9 million in collaboration revenue due to the termination of our license and collaboration agreement with Merck & Co., Inc in March 2010.
