Hill Physicians Medical Group and MMC use RelayHealth’s referral management service

Hill Physicians Medical Group, one of the nation’s largest independent physician associations (IPAs) serving Northern California, and New York-based Montefiore Medical Center are using RelayHealth’s referral management service to facilitate secure health information exchange between primary care providers (PCP) and physician specialists. The result for both organizations is improved care team collaboration, patient satisfaction and specialty treatment prioritization.

The research suggests that GPs are still managing individual risk factors such as blood pressure and cholesterol in isolation of one another, and are not adopting recommendations to treat a patient's overall or absolute risk. Absolute risk management is based on the principle that the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease act together. By taking this approach treatment can be targeted to those most likely to benefit.

Vitamin K prevents age-related conditions

An important analysis conducted by Children's Hospital Oakland Research Institute scientists suggests the importance of ensuring optimal dietary intakes of vitamin K to prevent age-related conditions such as bone fragility, arterial and kidney calcification, cardiovascular disease, and possibly cancer. Vitamin K is concentrated in dark green plants such as spinach or Swiss chard, and is either not present or present in only small amounts in most multivitamin pills.

This flies in the face of recent reports that employers are likely to eliminate wellness programs as a cost-saving measure.
