Dr Patel ignored advice from colleagues

The charges of manslaughter that Dr Patel has been facing over three patients he had operated on between 2003 and 2005 are now on trial in the Supreme Court in Brisbane. The patients were Mervyn John Morris, 75 , Ames Edward Phillips, 46, and Geradus Wihelmus Gosewinus Kemps, 77. Dr Patel is also charged with one grievous bodily harm case besides these three manslaughter charges to Ian Rodney Vowles, 62.

Another Juror in the manslaughter trail of Dr. Jayant Patel has been discharged from her duties in a latest development. She is the third in the last six days of the trial at the Supreme Court in Brisbane

NZ Doctor struck off for misconduct

While all names have been suppressed to protect the identities of those involved, the case has caught the imagination of the media. “Dr N” who admitted to professional misconduct before the Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal was reported to have appealed to the High Court against being struck off by The Weekend Herald on Saturday. The appeal was unsuccessful.

APS-AAPT joint meeting: Highlights

Mapping of all fragile sites of yeast S.cerevisiae may lead to better understanding of cancer development

The research group of Dr. Fran-ois Robert, a researcher at the Institut de recherches cliniques de Montr-al (IRCM), in collaboration with the team of Dr. Daniel Durocher (Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute and University of Toronto) accomplished a technical breakthrough: they mapped all the fragile sites of a living organism, the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The method used by the researchers can be applied to humans. This study has been published online today in the scientific journal Nature Structural and Molecular Biology.

RONA MS Bike Tour organized for the benefit of the Quebec Division of the MS Society a huge success

The 20th edition of the RONA MS Bike Tour, organized for the benefit of the Quebec Division of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada, ended last weekend in a glow of unbelievable generosity. Together, the 1,500 cyclists raised $1,450,000, which will fund research and services for people with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their families. Participants got together in the Victoriaville area on August 22 and 23, and in the Levis region on August 29 and 30.
