UIC wins HRSA-MCHB grant to expand disabilities training program

A successful University of Illinois at Chicago-based interdisciplinary effort to train leaders in programs that help children with developmental disabilities and autism has won a $3.3 million five-year grant from the Department of Health and Human Services' Health Resources and Services Administration-Maternal and Child Health Bureau.

Amgen's Prolia receives FDA approval for new indications to treat cancer patients

Amgen today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved two new indications for Prolia® (denosumab) as a treatment to increase bone mass in women at high risk for fracture receiving adjuvant aromatase inhibitor therapy for breast cancer and as a treatment to increase bone mass in men at high risk for fracture receiving androgen deprivation therapy for non-metastatic prostate cancer.

Prevalence of diabetes increases 30% over last four years in urban India

The prevalence of diabetes in urban India is accelerating at a rapid rate and now stands at 5.5 percent (just under 20 million people), compared with 4.6 percent in 2007 - equivalent to a 30 percent increase in actual population numbers over the last four years - according to new research by GfK HealthCare's Roper Global Diabetes Group. Moreover, a full 10 percent of these patients have been diagnosed in the past 12 months.
