Repligen acquires BioFlash

Repligen Corporation announced today that it has acquired the assets of BioFlash Partners, LLC, (BioFlash) including a technology platform for the production of pre-packed, "plug and play" chromatography columns. This patented technology enables economical production of chromatography columns in a format that is ready for use in the production of a broad range of biopharmaceuticals including monoclonal antibodies, vaccines and recombinant proteins.

Nominations accepted for 2010 George Washington Carver Award

The third annual George Washington Carver Award will recognize significant contributions by an individual to the field of industrial biotechnology, including applications in biological engineering, environmental science, biorefining and biobased products. The Biotechnology Industry Organization today announced that it is accepting nominations for the 2010 George Washington Carver Award, which will be presented at the 2010 World Congress on Industrial Biotechnology and Bioprocessing, June 27-30, 2009 in Washington, D.C.

BAC adds affinity resin for AAT purification to GE Healthcare’s range of custom designed media

BAC BV, the leading provider of antibody-based affinity purification technology, has extended its collaboration with GE Healthcare with the addition of a new bioprocess affinity chromatography ligand to GE Healthcare’s range of custom designed media. The latest addition to the range is an affinity resin for the purification of alpha-1 antitrypsin (AAT) from blood plasma, recombinant cell culture or transgenic sources. The new resin has been developed as part of GE Healthcare’s Custom Designed Media (CDM) programme and provides a new solution for AAT purification in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Repligen receives USPTO Notice of Allowance for patent covering a recombinant form of Protein A

Repligen Corporation announced today that it has received a Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a patent covering a recombinant form of Protein A which is identical in structure to the commercial form of Protein A from Staphylococcus aureus which is used in the production of many of the world's approved monoclonal antibodies. The patent, which will remain in force until 2028, covers a new Repligen proprietary product which is now available in commercial quantities.

Emergent BioSolutions acquires 55,000 square foot manufacturing facility from MdBio Foundation

Emergent BioSolutions Inc. announced today that it has completed the acquisition of a 55,000 square foot manufacturing facility from MdBio Foundation and the land on which the facility stands from the City of Baltimore for a total purchase price of $8.2 million. The facility, located within the City of Baltimore, Maryland, previously operated as a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) licensed facility used by an experienced contract manufacturing organization (CMO) to produce a number of FDA approved products.
