Emergent BioSolutions initiates TRU-016 Phase Ib/II study for chronic lymphocytic leukemia

Emergent BioSolutions Inc. today announced the initiation of a Phase Ib/II study (16201) of TRU-016 for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). TRU-016 is a CD37-directed Small Modular ImmunoPharmaceutical (SMIP™) protein therapeutic in development for the treatment of B-cell malignancies. TRU-016 is being developed in collaboration with Abbott.

p38-targeted compounds hold promise for Alzheimer's disease treatment

Linda J. Van Eldik, director of the University of Kentucky Sanders-Brown Center on Aging, has been awarded a $750,000 grant to further her research into a possible treatment for Alzheimer's disease. The grant is from the Edward N. And Della L. Thome Memorial Foundation, and was one of only eight Awards in Alzheimer's Disease Drug Discovery Research to be given in the U.S. in 2010.

Human model of rare genetic disease reveals new clues to aging process

Scientists from A*STAR's Institute of Medical Biology (IMB) in Singapore and the University of Hong Kong's Department of Medicine have produced the world's first human cell model of progeria, a disease resulting in severe premature ageing in one in four to eight million children worldwide. This model has allowed them to make new discoveries concerning the mechanism by which progeria works.

ArQule's ARQ 197 Phase 1 clinical trial results in colorectal cancer presented at ASCO 2011

ArQule, Inc. today announced the presentation of Phase 1 results of a clinical trial among patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (CRC) treated with ARQ 197, a selective small molecule inhibitor of the c-MET receptor tyrosine kinase, in combination with irinotecan and cetuximab. ARQ 197 is under development by Daiichi Sankyo Co., Ltd. and ArQule.

AnC Bio Holdings invests $4 million in Bioheart

Bioheart, Inc. announced today that it has entered into an agreement with AnC Bio Holdings, Inc., a South Korean biomedical company, and one of its U.S. agents for a $4 million equity investment.
