Seattle Children’s opens first clinical trial to study IBD and GVHD in pediatric patients

In an effort to find new strategies to personalize treatment for pediatric patients, Seattle Children's has opened the first clinical trial applying next-generation T-cell receptor sequencing and single-cell gene expression analysis to better understand how the immune system drives both inflammatory bowel disease in pediatric autoimmunity patients and graft-versus host disease in pediatric bone marrow transplant patients.

Researchers demonstrate multicolor 3D imaging of live mouse using compact Compton camera

Researchers invented a Compton camera of 580g which visualizes gamma rays of arbitrary energies, and succeeded in achieving a high-resolution, multicolor 3D molecular image of a live mouse administered with three different radioactive tracers in just 2 hours.

Complex malaria vaccine protects monkeys against virulent parasite strains

Researchers from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, part of the National Institutes of Health, modified an experimental malaria vaccine and showed that it completely protected four of eight monkeys that received it against challenge with the virulent Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite.

Researchers identify genetic mutations that predict better prognosis for neuroblastoma patients

The annual mortality rate in childhood cancer of the sympathetic nervous system, or neuroblastoma, is 10 per million between the ages of 0 and 4. The collaborative work between Basque and Valencian researchers has served to identify some genetic mutations that will help to improve the treatment of this disease.
