FDA grants 510(k) clearance for superDimension's marker delivery kit

superDimension, Ltd., a privately-owned company that develops minimally invasive interventional pulmonology devices, today announced it has received FDA 510(k) clearance for the superDimension marker delivery kit. The kit is designed for use with the Company's Electromagnetic Navigational Bronchoscopy (ENB) system, which has treated a total of 20,000 total patients since commercial launch.

New synchrotron-based imaging technique offers more detailed chemical images

With intensity a million times brighter than sunlight, a new synchrotron-based imaging technique offers high-resolution pictures of the molecular composition of tissues with unprecedented speed and quality. Carol Hirschmugl, a physicist at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), led a team of researchers from UWM, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) to demonstrate these new capabilities.

Using skin cells from young patients who have a severe genetic heart defect, Stanford University School of Medicine scientists have generated beating heart cells that carry the same genetic mutation. The newly created human heart cells - cardiomyocytes - allowed the researchers for the first time to examine and characterize the disorder at the cellular level.
