Positive preclinical pharmacokinetic data for XMT-1001 presented at AACR 2010

Mersana Therapeutics, a platform-based cancer therapeutics company, announced today positive preclinical pharmacokinetic data for its lead development candidate, XMT-1001, which is currently in a Phase 1 clinical trial in patients with advanced solid tumors. The results were presented in a poster session at the AACR 101st Annual Meeting 2010 in Washington, DC, held April 17-21, 2010.

Drugmakers raised prices last year in anticipation of new health law, Eli Lilly reports financial hit

"Drug companies sharply raised prices last year, ahead of increased rebates they must pay to Medicaid and other expenses tied to the federal health overhaul passed last month. Prices for brand-name pharmaceuticals rose 9.1% last year, the biggest increase in at least a decade, according to pharmacy-benefit manager Express Scripts Inc."

CVS Caremark survey results of specialty pharmacy patients

CVS Caremark today announced results of a survey of the company's specialty pharmacy patients that provides insights into their views on medication adherence and their perceptions about the role of their specialty pharmacy. The survey results show nearly 70 percent of respondents believe their specialty pharmacy team played an important role in encouraging them to take their specialty medications as prescribed.

In the latest issue of the renowned scientific journal "Nature" researchers from the universities of Freiburg and Basel report on their discovery of previously unknown subunits of the GABAB receptors in the central nervous system. GABAB receptors are transmembrane proteins in nerve cells which are of fundamental significance for the functioning of the brain and have great therapeutical and pharmaceutical importance.

Hundreds of new medical marijuana dispensaries have cropped up in Denver, Boulder and other Colorado cities, causing the state to stop accepting walk-up applications from people seeking cards that allow them to buy the plant, CNBC/USA Today reports. Would-be medical-marijuana consumers will now have to mail in their applications. "The changes are necessary due to the explosive growth in the number of medical marijuana applications," said a state health official.

Lotus Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a growing developer, manufacturer and seller of medicine and drugs in the People's Republic of China reported that its asthma drug Laevo-Bambutero will receive the China's State Food & Drug Administration's (SFDA) Fast Track Approval to enter clinical trials. The SFDA's Drug Review and Evaluation Center told the Company during recent consultations at the end of the Company's IND that formal approval would be granted by the Beijing office of the SFDA.

Calling the current system 'broken' and warning of long-term financial problems, the state House today approved a proposal that would gradually shift almost all Medicaid recipients into managed-care plans. Report details progress in fighting malaria in Africa, notes funding shortfall
