Comprehensive approach to the evaluation of groin pain

She wasn't born this way, but even Lady Gaga experienced groin pain-typically a symptom of hip disease such as arthritis of the hip-or, in her case, a hip labral tear. Groin pain is a common health complaint. According to a literature review appearing in the September 2013 issue of the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, one in four people develop hip arthritis-damage to the surfaces in the hip joint-before the age of 85 that contributes to groin pain.

Intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections safe, effective for patients with knee osteoarthritis

A new meta-analysis of 29 randomized studies involving more than 4,500 patients with knee osteoarthritis found that intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections provided significant improvement in pain and function compared to saline injections.

Spinal injuries are present in 1 out of 9 U.S. military personnel sustaining combat injuries in Iraq or Afghanistan -- a much higher rate than in previous wars, according to a report in the Sept. 15 issue of Spine. The journal is published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, a part of Wolters Kluwer Health.

FDA grants orphan drug designation to Soligenix’s SGX94 for treatment of Acute Radiation Syndrome

Soligenix, Inc., a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing products to treat inflammatory diseases and biodefense countermeasures where there remains an unmet medical need, announced today that the Office of Orphan Products Development of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted orphan drug designation to the active ingredient SGX94 for the treatment of acute radiation syndrome (ARS).

Yet, reports of psychological and emotional child abuse have risen in the same period, and data vary significantly as to whether child neglect is increasing, decreasing, or remaining constant.

Study shows huge cost implications in getting injured patients to appropriate trauma hospitals

During a three-year period in seven metropolitan areas in the western United States, the emergency medical services system sent more than 85,000 injured patients to major trauma hospitals who didn't need to go there - costing the health care system more than $130 million per year, according to an Oregon Health & Science University study published today in the journal Health Affairs.
