New technology may lessen health and environmental concerns about nanotechnology industry

In an advance that could help ease health and environmental concerns about the emerging nanotechnology industry, scientists are reporting development of technology for changing the behavior of nanoparticles in municipal sewage treatment plants - their main gateway into the environment. Their study will be published online November 12 in ACS' journal Environmental Science & Technology.

NQF releases the QDS framework for defining data necessary to measure performance in patient care

The National Quality Forum (NQF) announced today the release of the Quality Data Set (QDS), a common technological framework for defining clinical data necessary to measure performance and accelerate improvement in patients' quality of care. The QDS framework provides a standardized set of data that should be captured in patients' electronic health records and is applicable to all care settings a patient is likely to use in his or her lifetime.

DFG to strengthen its support for young researchers, approves establishment of 11 new Research Training Groups

The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) has intensified its efforts to strengthen its support of young researchers. At its fall session in Bonn, the responsible Grants Committee of Germany's central research funding organisation approved the establishment of eleven new Research Training Groups. In these groups, doctoral researchers can earn their doctorates in a structured research and qualification programme.

Nonprofit organizations receive a total of $4.6 million in grants from Edwards Lifesciences Fund

Edwards Lifesciences Corporation, the global leader in the science of heart valves and hemodynamic monitoring, today announced that The Edwards Lifesciences Fund is granting $1.8 million to 107 nonprofit organizations as part of its fifth annual grant cycle. BioInvent International, Daiichi Sankyo sign licence and discovery agreement

BioInvent International AB has announced that it has entered into a licence and discovery agreement with DAIICHI SANKYO COMPANY, LIMITED for the development of therapeutic antibodies against multiple targets. Under the terms of the collaboration, Daiichi Sankyo will be granted broad access to BioInvent's discovery and development technology platform and in house antibody expertise. As part of the agreement, BioInvent has secured certain co-promotion rights in Scandinavia and the Baltic countries.
